Welcome to the first edition of the National Diversity Council newsletter for 2020. Over the course of the first quarter, the National Diversity Council (NDC) has hosted various Women in Leadership Symposiums across the nation for women’s history month and hosted the Certified Diversity Professional Program in San Antonio, with more than 500 individuals holding the prestigious industry certification. In addition to this, our CEO, Angeles Valenciano, represented the National Diversity Council and Texas Diversity Council during the San Antonio Martin Luther King (MLK) Jr. March, which is the largest MLK parade in the nation.
March marked the start of the celebration of women’s history month, with the National Diversity Council kicking off symposiums in Phoenix, Arizona; Toledo, Ohio; Cleveland, Ohio; Tampa Bay, Florida; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A panel of speakers in various industries spoke on topics such as the gender wage gap; collaboration over competition; the power of no: the importance of setting boundaries and realistic goals; and rethinking work: flexibility and engagement.
As COVID-19 has changed the way our communities interact and engage with others, the National Diversity Council will continue to be a resource and advocate for all. The National Diversity Council recently published a guide for how employers can support their employees with their mental health during this time. As the year progresses, we invite you to join us in this journey working towards equity and inclusion for all by keeping up to date at nationaldiversitycouncil.org.
