Welcome to the third edition of the National Diversity Council newsletter. Over the course of the second quarter, we celebrated PRIDE Month globally, with the launch of our 2019 Mexico City LGBTQ+ Cumbre de la Unidad with the theme #PrideWorldWide. We also partnered with SKYY Vodka and John Cena for a social media campaign promoting “the beauty in diversity” from July 1-July 4 that raised $35,000 in charitable giving for the National Diversity Council. Dennis Kennedy, our founder and board chairman, was also featured in Authority Magazine for his work in the diversity and inclusion space that spearheaded the formation of the National Diversity Council.
Kicking off June’s PRIDE month, we held various LGBTQ+ Summits across the country and internationally in Mexico. The 2019 Florida LGBT-Allies Diversity Summit commemorated three years since the tragic Pulse Night Club shooting that claimed more than 49 lives. Jennifer Foster, the Founding Executive Director of One Orlando Alliance, conducted a workshop “Our LGBTQ+ Community: 3 Years After the Pulse Tragedy.” On June 16, 2016, four days following the Pulse Night Club shooting, she and Carlos Carbonell convened 18 LGBTQ+ organizational leaders to meet with local, state and federal government officials and representatives to craft a shared recovery strategy.
Across national lines, in Mexico City, Mexico, various symposium speakers spoke to the need for unity and equity in the LGBTQ+ community. The head of TI and leader of LGBTQ+ ERG at Walmart, Alonzo Yañez and Brand & Campaigns Lead for Uber, Patricio Gonzales were among notable speakers from companies such as Western Union and Afluenta.
The Spark Change Campaign showcased thousands of social media users firework pictures that donated $5 with a match from SKYY Vodka to the National Diversity Council. Along with John Cena, influencers such as Amara Le Negra and Trixie Mattel supportec the charitable cause.
As we look towards the fourth quarter, the National Diversity Council will continue to be an advocate and resource for the importance of diversity and inclusion in and outside of the workplace. We invite you to join us in our journey working towards equity for all at various events across the nation by keeping up to date at nationaldiversitycouncil.org.
