Diversity and inclusion is a hot topic being discussed by more than just D&I professionals. The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) proved this on September 12th when they hosted their first “Communicating D&I” Workshop at Ace Café Downtown in Orlando. The IABC is a community-led organization that focuses on providing individuals in the Communications field with networking and educational opportunities to further grow their careers and professional development.
At this specific Workshop on D&I, they discussed the basic concept and communicated why it is so vital for communications professionals to be aware and culturally conscious. After this, they invited Elana Powell, a Coordinator for the Florida Diversity Council, to speak on the work that the National Diversity Council does and how we can partner to continue promoting diversity and inclusion and further the dialogue around these important topics. As more organizations like the IABC begin to recognize and value these conversations, we will be one step closer to creating a more inclusive community.
