On October 3rd, 2018, the Tri-State Diversity Council is holding its inaugural 2018 Tri-State Authentic Leadership Summit, which will take place on October 11th in New Jersey at DSM. The theme of this event is: How to Hold Courageous Conversations about Contemporary Narratives.

The purpose of this event is to open conversation about how we communicate and address issues of race, gender, age and national origin in the workplace. Topics like #MeToo #TimesUp and #BlackLivesMatter are driving political, social and media communications in the communities where we live and work; yet we do not discuss them in the workplace which has a chilling effect on developing the interpersonal, authentic and open relationships needed to enable ALL employees to feel safe, and bring their whole selves to work every day. This is fundamental to having the diverse and inclusive workplaces we all aspire to build, and will need to create competitive advantage now and into the future. We need to have the conversation now, and discuss how companies can politely, productively and professionally facilitate having these conversations in their workplace without judgement, retaliation or divisiveness.
