The New Jersey Diversity Council and Connecticut Diversity Council each held their 2018 Kick Off Mixers in January (New York mixer is held in the fall). Mixers are a networking event that attract area organizations that want to learn about the mission, meetings and events of the Tri-State Diversity Council, as well as to meet other professionals who have a passion or focus on diversity and inclusion.

On January 24th, the New Jersey mixer was held at Mompou Tapas Bar in Newark and was sponsored by Tri-State corporate partner, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. Nearly 90 people from over 40 organizations attended, enjoying a variety of cocktails and delicious Spanish tapas while networking and forming new connections. One attendee, Mel Hioki said, “This was my first NJ Diversity Council event. Mompou Tapas Bar in Newark was a great event venue (the food was excellent)! It was great meeting people from different backgrounds who are passionate about diversity and inclusion. It’s very refreshing to come upon people who really do care. I look forward to attending upcoming meetings and events! Thank you NJ Diversity Council for leading the way!”

On January 25th, the Connecticut mixer was held at Carmine’s Bar Grill & Stage. The attendees found themselves engaged in personal conversations and laughs. Stephen Dombrowski from the CT Department of Labor said, “the Tri-State Diversity Council is a great way to network with like-minded people, helping to promote inclusion, by celebrating differences, simultaneously working toward education and prosperity for all populations. If you go to a meeting or after work mixer, you will leave with new friends and contacts to build your business and strengthen your organization collaborative efforts.”
