Families for Fragile X held its 8th Annual Monkey Madness 5K Run/Walk, presented by EGIS Insurance & Risk Advisors to support Fragile X Syndrome. The event was held on March 12th, 2017 at Zoo Miami. It raised awareness and funds about Fragile X. Fragile X Syndrome is the leading inherited cause of intellectual disabilities and the most common known cause of Autism worldwide. One million women in the U.S. carry the gene that causes Fragile X. Families for Fragile X was able to raise close to $80,000 at their event and looks forward to continuing to grow partnerships with local businesses to better serve the Fragile X community.
A major sponsor of the event, KW Property Management & Consulting, believes that as the family forms an important part of the employee’s life and career, reaching out to causes that the employees are passionate about, helps strengthen the organization-employee bond. It also encourages employee philanthropy, through their matching program and volunteerism. Many of KW’s employees were at Zoo Miami as early as 5:30am to assist in setting up the registration area, which they ran. With the support of many local sponsors, the Monkey Madness Run/Walk was a great way to reach out to the greater community and provide an open, inclusive environment for those affected by Fragile X Syndrome and their families.
