The New Jersey Diversity Council and Connecticut Diversity Council each held their 2017 Kick Off Mixers in January (New York mixer is held in the fall). Mixers are a networking event that attract area organizations that want to learn about the mission, meetings and events of the Tri-State Diversity Council, as well as to meet other professionals who have a passion or focus on diversity and inclusion.

On January 25th , the New Jersey mixer was held at Mompou Tapas Bar in Newark and was sponsored by Tri-State corporate partner, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. Nearly 100 people from over 50 organizations attended, enjoying cocktails and Spanish tapas while networking. Said one guest from Optimum, “I’ve been wanting to get more involved with diversity and inclusion, and now that I found the NJ Diversity Council, I can’t wait to get started by attending your meetings and events!”

On January 26th, the Connecticut mixer was held at Bonefish Grill in South Windsor and was sponsored by Tri-State corporate partner, Bloomin’ Brands. Special guest, Christine Jean-Louis, Asst. Attorney General from the CT Office of Attorney General, offered brief remarks and a call to action. In reference to exercising constitution rights, she quoted Barack Obama, “…change only happens when ordinary people get involved and they get engaged, and they come together to demand it.” Attorney Jean-Louis holds several volunteer roles, including chair of the CT Bar Association’s annual Diversity & Inclusion Summit. Wrote one guest from the CT Assoc. for Human Services, “Awesome Mixer!!! It was my first, but will not be my last!!! Like the CT Diversity Council, I am passionate about this type of work and am eager to get more involved.”
