Dear Friends,

On a sunny Saturday morning this past September, dozens of college students from the Chicagoland area arrived at ADM’s global headquarters at 77 W. Wacker Drive in Chicago to participate in the Illinois Diversity Council’s College Diversity Summit. There, they attended several workshops on topics such as leadership, resumé-building and secrets of a successful job interview.

I can’t tell you how exciting it was to meet and engage with young, up-and-coming leaders who were so determined to succeed. The passion, interest and enthusiasm they displayed were truly remarkable. For me, the Summit was a reminder that opportunity typically is not a product of serendipity. Opportunity comes to those who chase it, seize it and make the most of it.

This month’s ILDC newsletter is all about opportunity. At a time when the U.S. is near full employment, wages in many sectors are rising and innovation is everywhere, opportunity seems abundant. The challenge, of course, is knowing exactly where to find it, and when and how to capitalize on it. We’ll explore answers to those questions and many more in the pages that follow.

I wish you the best of luck as you pursue the opportunities most important to you in 2017 and beyond.

Sincerely,

Case McGee
Chairman, Illinois Diversity Council
