Most people don’t know that……

I’ve spent a number of years on the Global side of the business and supported all 7 continents. This reshaped my view on diversity as well as provided a greater value for what the world has to offer. The world is diverse through our cultures, experiences and thought processes which makes us all stronger through learning from different views.

Studying what makes our BEST leaders in Diversity & Inclusion and understand how they make it happen. It would certainly assist me in becoming a better leader by “becoming a better student of the business” by understanding how these role models bring their experiences to life.

I’m a Change Agent for Diversity & Inclusion because..…..

I’m a foodie and have been one long before the label appeared. I enjoy all types of cuisine and will usually try anything once as long as it’s not moving on my plate.

The education of youth to nurture the seeds of D&I at a younger age in hopes of highlighting that our similarities are greater than our differences.

I’m a Change Agent for Diversity & Inclusion because..…..

Colombian-American. Yes, it’s true! I’m from the same country of origin as Sofia Vergara and Shakira! There are so many misconceptions about Colombia and what Colombians “look like”. Most often, people mistake me for Italian-American. That has never really bothered me, because Italians are amazing. (Also, Barona is a Latin surname, so there are definitely Italian Barona’s.) I’d like for more folks to know how amazing Colombians are as well. Please help me get the word out!

The history of women in the tech industry, especially with regard to coding. I work in the tech industry, and the continued underrepresentation of women is alarming. This trend does not appear to be reversing, unfortunately. The opportunity to spend a full day immersed in the contributions women have made in the tech industry would be a day to treasure.

I have been closely involved with corporate-level diversity recruiting. My point of view is that economic justice and social justice are tightly linked. Through my work, I ensure diverse talent has the opportunity to be aware of, and considered for, well-paid and meaningful jobs. I get to advocate for individuals who may not have previously had their talents or contributions considered. The neighborhood in which I have chosen to live and own a home also helps me contribute as a change agent for diversity and inclusion. I didn’t grow up in a diverse community, so as an adult I’ve made sure to live in places that allow me to interact with people from varying backgrounds. The Rogers Park neighborhood that I have intentionally made my home in is considered to be one of the most authentically diverse communities in the US.
