The Florida Diversity Council hosted the 6th annual Florida Healthcare Diversity Summit in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at Broward Health on Friday, August 18th, 2017. A huge thank you to Broward Health and Baptist Health South Florida for sponsoring such an amazing event. The Healthcare Diversity Council aims to provide a forum for dialogue and awareness. Our main goal is to assist in creating knowledge as to how to build an organizational culture and workforce that is culturally competent and inclusive.
Emcee Carol Briggs, Vice President from South Miami Hospital did a fantastic job moderating the day’s events while controlling all the emotions in the room from the fantastic speeches from the day’s speakers. From the opening remarks to the closing remarks while navigating through the executive panel in which we had representatives from The Medicines Company, Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, and Orlando Health deliver fantastic perspectives on Diversity & Inclusion within their respective organizations, Carol did an amazing job at maintaining the tone of an emotional event.
Keynote speaker, Dr. Pedro Greer from FIU performed an emotional speech in which he illustrated his lefe long journey within the Healthcare field. It was a mix of emotional sentiment and a motivational speech encouraging all to follow Dr. Greer’s path as he has truly been an innovator in the field. By the end of the speech the audience were all in a mix of joy and tears while all were able to empathize with many points of his speech. He truly left a piece of himself with the audience as his speech set the tone for a great event.
Overall it was an event that focused on Diversity & Inclusion within the Healthcare field but felt like so much more due the conversations that were held throughout the day and the thoughts that were exchanged. We encourage all to get involved with next year’s Florida Healthcare Diversity Summit. A huge thank you to Broward Health for being such wonderful hosts.
